Shift At Midnight Guide
Officially sourced basics for the petrol-station detective horror game, with focused guides and no invented rosters or rankings.
Shift At Midnight is an online co-op detective horror game for up to 3 players where you run a rural petrol station, investigate customers who may be doppelgangers, and survive when a creature gets away. This hub summarises only what official Steam material confirms, then links to focused guides.
Last reviewed: 22 July 2026. Release, price, platform, and roadmap details are time-sensitive announcements; check Steam before buying.
What the sources confirm
- Steam describes Shift At Midnight as an online co-op detective horror game for up to 3 players, playable solo or in co-op.
- The core loop is run the petrol station plus check each customer's identity to spot forgers and doppelgangers before they escalate.
- The July 21 announcement describes Story Mode with 13 nights and Endless Mode (Beta) with infinite nights, unlocked after Story Mode.
- The July 10 announcement sets a strict matchmaking boundary: Steam players match only with Steam players, whilst Xbox and Xbox PC Game Pass players cross-play with each other.
- The Steam store lists the game for Windows. Developer and publisher are listed on the store page as Bun Muen and Kwalee.
The shift in three parts
- Run the station. Stock shelves, take deliveries, clean, serve customers, and work towards the nightly quota.
- Check each customer. Compare identification with computer records and watch behaviour before deciding whether someone is human.
- Survive an escape. The store says a missed doppelganger can return as a monster; barricades, traps, and hiding then become part of the shift.
Modes, price, and availability
The July 21 announcement described Story Mode (13 nights) and Endless Mode (Beta) with infinite nights. It also described a $9.99 USD price with a launch discount and regional pricing — that is an announced US price, not a live checkout quote, so confirm the current price on the Steam store page.
The Steam store listed the game for Windows and, when last reviewed, still showed 22 July 2026 as its planned release date. An earlier official release announcement announced Steam, Xbox, and Xbox PC Game Pass for launch.
Matchmaking is not universal cross-play
The July 10 announcement says Xbox and Xbox PC Game Pass players have cross-play with each other. It separately says Steam players can match only with other Steam players. A Steam-only public server browser was planned for launch or shortly afterwards; this site does not treat that planned feature as confirmed live.
